Have you ever wondered where the wood at the logbank comes from?
All the wood at the logbank is sourced from within around 15 miles of the logbank at various sites managed by Axewoods on behalf of local landowners, farmers and private individuals.
The timber for harvesting is carefully selected from damaged or struggling trees or to thin woodland to encourage new growth and as part of good woodland and habitat management.
It’s a real team effort to get a tree from woodland to logbank. Once identified, the trees are cut down by Axewood’s team of fellers, before processing into small sections by cross-cutters and then moved out of the woodland (often by hand) by even more people and loaded onto trailers. Once on the trailers it’s then off to the logank for splitting and drying.
Here are several recent photos of just some of our work at two sites in Newton Poppleford and the RSPB Aylesbeare Common for wood destined for the logbank. Some of this wood went from tree to logbank in under 3 hours!
