Axewoods Co-operative is a not-for-profit volunteer organisation which undertakes a range of Woodland Management activities, by fully qualified and insured members, to both private, public and charitable woodland owners in return for the felled timber. Much of this timber goes into community use via our log bank.
We work together with local and national organisations for collective community benefits, offer advice, education, research and woodland training events which can lead to NPTC qualifications.
We are currently working with numerous landowners helping to manage their woodlands, extract timber for the Log Bank, and promote engagement with woodlands.
Our aims and goals are to provide the means by which co-op members in East Devon are able to:
- improve their understanding of woodland ecology and work together for collective community benefits
- secure their own wood fuel needs and help local people in fuel poverty
- learn woodland craft skills, woodland team working skills and offer woodland training events.
We have built a firm on-going relationship with Clinton Estates, National Trust, The Forestry Commission, East Devon District Council and The Donkey Sanctuary with our recent successful projects. Funding has allowed us to train members to NPTC standards and purchase specialist equipment including a powerful log-splitter. We are proud of our steady growth, local support and the interest generated by Forest Research, Permaculture magazine and other publications.
We are fully certified and insured for woodland management, we follow and continuously review our Health & Safety Policy and Risk Assessment.
