As those followers of Axewoods will recall we helped take down the old Horse Chestnut on Otterton Village Green (see news story 3rd December if you missed this one).

We have now taken the trunk up to Stantyway Farm in Otterton and milled it using our Alaskan Mill. (The Alaskan uses a large, powerful chainsaw rather than our portable bandsaw mill), which is very cool!
The planks of beautiful Chestnut and roundels are now drying in Sam’s barn ready for the next stage. As you will see from the photos, they have an amazing grain and will make some outstanding pieces.
Budleigh Salterton Community Workshop will make a table which will be raffled /auctioned to raise money for the Otterton Village children’s playground. Look out for more news of this in the future for your chance to own a unique hand crafted piece of Otterton history. Off-cuts from the process will also not go to waste and will be used by the woodturning classes at the Workshop.
Great to be part of a network of community groups which work together, share resources and have a great time in the process.
