We usually fell trees between October and March. This allows birds and wildlife to nest and raise their young without disturbance and is safer when there are fewer leaves on the trees. We then store the logs for a year or two before splitting them in the Spring so they have the Summer for a final drying. Our new polytunnels will help here. We try to make sure all of the logs we supply conform to the industry standard of less than 20% moisture content. After this lovely Summer some of our logs are down to 13%!
We hold regular Log Bank Days where people referred to us can come to help process logs and collect some for their use. Our members volunteer to deliver logs to those who have been referred to us and cannot access the log bank.
If there is room for another photo – the one with 4 guys in the shed is the NHS Log Bank at Torbay Hospital which we help run.
