Part of the work of Axewoods involves community projects, as was the case last week, when the Axewoods team helped out in Otterton.
The Horse Chestnut tree on Otterton Village Green was diseased and sadly needed to come down.
Toby and Fiona gave us a Masterclass in taking a tree down – amazing to watch! Axewoods members worked hard to cross-cut (cut up), sort the brash and clear up, like a well oiled machine.
Some wood went to the Log Bank, some to members and some to Villagers, with a large section of the trunk being left on the green, where the Axewoods team hope to bring their Alaskan mill to plank the remaining trunk, season it and make some tables. With a plan to raffle or auction them to raise money for rebuilding the village playground.
