On Wednesday 20 July seven members of the Axewoods team ventured into Ashclyst Forest for a day of milling. The Hemlock trees were felled last Winter. As some of the trunks were quite big in diameter over 600mm and weighed circa 1/2 ton it was decided it would be a good idea to tow the mill to Ashclyst as then when planked the timber would be easier to handle. We managed to mill the two largest trunks into 15 or so 10’ long planks which will be stored to season. The remainder of the trunks we are planning to get back to the logbank for processing in due course. Well done to Dermot, Steve, Mark, Ralph, Nick D, Tony and Sarah.
